The man you all know as Carolina Torch was born “Sherman Darkoh” to
Ruby and Joseph Darkoh in Wilmington North Carolina. The youngest of five
siblings, one brother and three sisters, At the age of 12, what started as
a hobby while joking on family and friends, was what sparked the flame for
Torch as an emcee. While everyone mentions the obvious for their
influences, Torch includes some of them, but also adds a few that many tend
to leave out of their bios such as; ” Rakim,“ “Scarface,” ”
Outcast,” and “ Heavy D.” Unfortunately, I couldn’t dance so I had
to wait until “Reality Rap” came back to the forefront. The era of
“Biggie and Pac” was the movement that really got Torch into the art of
emceeing very heavy. With those two talents putting the steam into the hip
hop game, this was the driving force that pushed the art of being an emcee
from a hobby to a career for Torch. As he began to realize the power he
possessed in his lyrics, he began participating in local radio contest
